Dave’s Hero Case Study
When I was first introduced to my client, she had two young boys and was a housewife, working sporadically as a hairdresser. Her partner was a builder and was the main breadwinner in the family. During our consultation, as her partner was the main breadwinner, she said she didn’t feel the need for critical illness protection for herself. She felt it wasn’t worth the additional cost. We discussed the risks and the impact of her being ill and I stressed that whilst her partner may be the main breadwinner, would he be able to carry on working as normal if she was critically ill? My client was pregnant with her third child when she found a lump. The midwife looking after at the time reassured her it was just a fatty lump which would disappear after she gave birth. Unfortunately following the birth it was still present and she had a biopsy taken. At just 24, and with a young family, my client had stage 2 cancer that was spreading. Luckily they caught it early and my client responded well to treatment.
As soon as I heard the news I checked her policy and started the claims process. I completed the paperwork and was able to tell my client that she would receive £120,000. LV= were fantastic throughout the process and told me the good news, so I could share it with my client myself.
Five years later, my client has three boys and has made an excellent recovery. Her check-ups have been clear since. You wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone, but this story has the best possible outcome. The pay-out made a massive difference to my client and her family. It meant that she could stop work completely to recover, and it allowed her partner to take his foot off the gas at work as they could support themselves financially throughout her treatment.
After she recovered my client treated her family to a holiday to Las Vegas. She and her husband took the remaining money and invested it in property. Over the last few years we have helped them grow a successful buy to let property portfolio.
